Joyce grew up in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. She is the third of four siblings. Her Mom and Dad both graduated from Deering High School. And, her Dad is a graduate of Bowdoin College while her Mom is a graduate of Westbrook Jr. College. Joyce graduated from Cape Elizabeth High School in 1976. Joyce attended Simmons College in Boston and at 20 graduated in the Class of 1980.
She stayed there for 6 years working mostly in retail as a Manager and then as a District Manager for Motherhood Maternity all along the Gulf Cost, from Beaumont, Texas to Pensacola, Florida. She then moved to Irvine and later to Anaheim, CA. She resided in California for almost 14 years.
At 35, divorced, attending Irvine UCC, with three young sons: Jack 8, Daniel 6, and Sammy 3, she was unintentionally, but overwhelmingly called to Ministry. While working at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Anaheim as the Youth Director, she met Eugene Long who was the paid Baritone soloist at the Anaheim Presbyterian Church, which changed her plans instantaneously. Instead of going to PSR in Berkeley, she attended Claremont School of Theology. At 40, she graduated in the class of 1999. She was 1st the Assistant Minister and then called to be the Associate Minister at CCUCC in Los Alamitos, CA. It was here she was ordained on October 17th, 1999. After being away from home (Maine) for 20 years, she was called to Casco Village Church UCC in 2001. Her family moved across country, bought a house in Raymond, and she has been serving CVCUCC ever since.
