Our Pastor, The Reverend Joyce A. Long
Pastor Joyce answered the call to Casco Village Church in July, 2001. She is passionate about creative worship, and the Word set in motion for bringing justice and peace into a troubled world. Equally important are the children’s moment, the music of the worship service, and, of course, preaching to understand scripture in today’s world. Pastor Joyce feels strongly connected to every age-spirit, from baptizing infants, to leading youth groups into mission, to ministering to the aging members of our congregation. In the summertime months, Joyce also leads a small congregation in the East Raymond Chapel.
Pastor Joyce graduated from Cape Elizabeth High School in 1976. She graduated with her BS in 1980 from Simmons College in Boston. After working as Youth Director at Irvine UCC in Irvine, CA and St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Anaheim, CA, she obtained her Masters of Divinity from Claremont School of Theology and was ordained in the UCC in 1999.
Joyce raised three boys, Jack, Daniel, and Sam Dobbin, and married Eugene Long in 1997. Eugene and Joyce are now proud grandparents of three grandchildren. Beyond Church, Joyce enjoys Yoga, aerobics and weight lifting, cooking, singing, and the outdoor activities of swimming in lakes, dog walking, hiking, and canoeing. Pilgrim Lodge, the UCC summer camp in West Gardiner, ME has played an important outdoor ministries role for Joyce as she has been Camper, Counselor, and Dean. Joyce has led mission trips with the high school youth group, STARBURST, to Safe Passage, Guatemala in 2015 and Camp Restore, New Orleans in 2017.
Choir Director Eugene Long
Eugene grew up in a musical family, following in his father’s footsteps of getting his degree in Music Education and also to perform professionally as an opera singer. He has his degree Summa Cum Laude from Cal State Fullerton. He sang professionally with Opera Pacific and the Pacific Chorale.
Eugene and Joyce moved back to Maine in 2001. “Mr. Long” has been the Chorale Arts teacher and drama director at Lake Region High School these past 15 years ~ as well as the Choir Director here at church.
Eugene enjoys many different genres of music from his favorite classical composers to spirituals and gospels to more contemporary music for choirs. Often he arranges pieces himself for the choir and instrumentalists to create truly exciting moments in worship. He also directs the choir in special performances of a Christmas concert, Easter Sunday, and a music appreciation Sunday to end the season for the Summer.
Accompanist/Organist Lynn Foss
This is the second time Lynn has been with us. She is a talented accompanist to the choir as well as organist and pianist. We enjoy her playing for preludes and postludes, and she is one of the family ~ as is her dog Kaytee.
Office Manager/Asst. to the Treasurer Wanda Vaughn-Carr
Wanda is a long-time member of CVC. She handles some of the financials of our church assisting the Treasurer, as well as filling the position of our Clerk, and our in-house graphic Artist. She also works across the street as the Assistant Librarian in the Casco Library. Wanda raised two children: Andi and Cree. She helps her husband Jon in his business “Tree House Graphics”. They are also busy building their house and barn just up the hill.
Office Assistant Storm Field
Storm is new to our staff, and we are delighted by her bright spirit eager to help in any way she can. Her best gift is the open hospitality she brings to the church office. Storm is raising her young daughter, London. They live with her aunt just down the street in Bolsters Mill, helping to restore their farm.
Nursery Care Emma Brown
Emma is 17 years old and a Senior at LRHS. She is Class 2019 Treasurer, NHS Treasurer, and Varsity Club Vice President in charge of Special Events. She is also a part of the Varsity Indoor Track and Varsity Girls Lacrosse Teams. In College she hopes to major in Elementary Education and play Lacrosse. She went on the 2017 STARBURST Mission Trip to New Orleans and she is very excited to be a part of this Mission Trip. She has never been outside the country and is looking forward to helping the children at Safe Passage.
Custodian Brian Porter
Brian keeps our Sanctuary looking good and, more challenging, keeps our other very actively used building clean. He is our super handy fix-it-guy, too! Brian is a member of CVC, and with his wife Helen, attends worship on a regular basis.
